What You Need to Know About God’s Judgement

As the world currently wallows in chaos, many people cannot help but think about the judgement of God. When Christians talk about judgement, they are referring to the belief that God will judge humanity based on the actions and beliefs of people. The main purpose of God’s judgement is to show the true character of each person, rewarding those who have been good while punishing those who have sinned. Ultimately, this judgement will vindicate the righteousness of God.

Talking about God’s judgement might seem a bit terrifying for some. However, history has proven that such judgement does occur, and to talk about it is to convince humanity to mend its ways and return to God. For Philip Wittig, an author and a lifelong Lutheran, the judgement of God is now particularly casting its warning upon America.

Wittig’s book on God’s judgement, Apostasy Can Lead a Nation to Self-Destruct: Will America Mends Its Ways and Return to God, particularly draws a parallelism between what had happened to ancient Israel in the past and what is happening to America at present. The rampant apostasy in the latter seems to be taking the country toward the same direction as the former. For this reason, Wittig is urging people through his book to be concerned about the internal destination of their soul and to return to God now while there is still time. To give you more idea on this, below are some of the most important things that you need to know about God’s judgement.

The absence of blessing is not equal to God’s judgement

Life is not a walk in the park. Sometimes, the difficulty of life can convince people that God has already casted His judgement upon them. This is not true, however. Just because you do not feel any blessing in your life right now does not mean that you are already being punished by God’s judgement. More often than not, this lack of feeling blessed only stems from your failure to discern and recognize the blessings that God has been showering you with.

Whenever you feel like your life is already being punished by God, remember that the absence of blessing is not equal to God’s judgement. In fact, there is no such thing as “the absence of God’s blessing”. His blessing is always available to you. Sometimes, you just do not receive it perhaps because of your ignorance or incorrect understanding of God, His character, and His ways.

The chaos and sufferings of the world are consequences of sin

God judges people according to their beliefs and actions. When you have been faithful and obedient, God will certainly reward on the day of judgement. On the other hand, when you have been sinful, the penalty of death as punishment is what awaits you. Therefore, in a sense, the troubles and distress that you are facing in life can be considered as nothing but consequences of your sin. In the same way, the chaos and sufferings that the world currently experiences are ramifications of the sinfulness of humanity. So, at the end of the day, how God will judge you totally depends on you. Whatever outcome you have at the end of it all is entirely your own making.

Repentance is the only key to salvation

Since how God will judge you depends on your actions and beliefs, you have the ability to change the outcome of your life. The best and only way to do this is to repent. Repentance is the key to salvation. Repentance means turning your back against evil and turning to God instead. It means allowing the grace and love of God to enter your heart.

When you repent, you recognize and denounce all of your sins, and you acknowledge the fact that you need Jesus Christ to save you. To repent is to change your mind regarding sin and Jesus Christ. To repent is to get rid of your old ways to make way for the new ones that obey and follow God. Once you have repented and accepted Jesus Christ in your heart, everything else will follow.

Overall, even though no one knows exactly when it will happen, the judgement of God indeed seems to be coming its way. Its ultimate purpose is to show the true character of each person and to vindicate the righteousness of God. It aims to reward those who have been good and to punish those who have totally turned their back against God. So, the only way to be saved from the penalty of death as God’s holy judgement on sin is to repent and accept Jesus Christ in your heart. As Wittig’s book on judgement points it out, time is already running out. Will you mend your ways and return to God?
